Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is the most common way to identify various ailments especially when the ailment is related to the heart. To perform an ECG, the medical personnel places the leads on the patient’s skin. The leads measure the heart’s electrical activity of one heart beat cycle and record it as a continuous line tracing on paper to produce a graph. Today there is a wide array of cardiac equipment that displays and interprets ECG signal patterns and medical equipment designers need a flexible, reliable and accurate way to seamlessly generate ECG signal patterns to verify their designs.

In 2015 in December issue of KIPiS magazine we published article «Up-todate Rigol spectrum analyzers». At that moment RIGOL Technologies, Inc. had three basic models: DSA815 (with 9 kHz…1.5 GHz frequency range), DSA832 (up to 3.2 GHz) and DSA875 (up to 7.5 GHz). But everything tends to change with time and the family of Rigol spectrum analyzers has also changed and replenished with new models following from high-end devices to low-end ones. Thus basing on DSA832 Rigol produced DSA832E and basing on DSA815 the company produced DSA700 series of two models — DSA710 and DSA705. Since 2013 we regularly publish reviews and articles dedicated to various measuring devices of RIGOL Technologies, Inc., one of the leaders in the measurement world. When developing relay and other devices for mechanical switching of electrical circuits it often becomes necessary to foresee the negative effect of transition processes during the mechanical switching — so-called «contact bounce». Often it becomes more complicated because of long pulse which may get up to 0.5 sec, several second process duration and inability to make research in the close proximity to the commuting equipment. In this case it is convenient to use a device that imitates a pulse sequence specific to «bounce». This task can be solved with AKTAKOM AHP-3616 pattern generator.

This year we had a chance to see lots of innovative products from the leaders of test and measurement area. This Spring Tektronix Inc., a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, organized several meetings for special presentation of new products — AWG5200 series arbitrary waveform generator (AWG), TTR500 series vector network analyzer (VNA) and absolutely new mixed signal oscilloscope MSO 5 series. And our magazine was one of the first to see these new devices before they were officially announced.

In March 2017 there were two new devices officially announced by Rohde & Schwarz. In order to demonstrate new devices and provide as much detailed information as possible the company specialists had organized a special pressconference on February 20. 2016 and the beginning of 2017 was very productive period for Keysight Technologies. There were many innovative products released for that time and one more product was only planned to be officially announced in March. Semiconductor electrophysics of today can hardly be imagined without C-V characteristic measurement meaning the capacitance measurement as a function of the applied direct offset voltage. This very measurement allows quickly identifying the basic parameters of semiconductor and dielectric layers which direct measurement is considered a rather complicated process. For up-to-date smart home systems or automation in laboratories or offices it’s necessary to have compact multifunctional devices to process discrete signals. AKTAKOM ACE-1768 is one of such devices.
