To be able to keep pace with the worlds continued need for faster and faster speeds, new ways of thinking must be considered to achieve the speeds and technologies to measure them. Traditional instrumentations have limitations and tradeoffs that must be understood. New measurement methodologies are emerging to ensure validation of the high frequencies can be achieved. The real-time oscilloscope suddenly has become a viable instrument to enable new high frequency technologies thanks to high bandwidth, low noise, and higher resolution ADCs.

Debugging embedded systems often involves looking for clues that are hard to discover just by looking at one domain at a time. The ability to look at time and frequency domains simultaneously can offer important insights. To address the need for RF analysis in its 4, 5 and 6 Series MSO mixed signal oscilloscopes, Tektronix is taking a new approach that does not require a separate input channel. Recently released firmware unlocks an analysis tool called Spectrum View that takes advantage of patented hardware already in the instruments.

Not so long ago AKTAKOM announced a new series of dual-channel general purpose generators that combine the functions of signal generator and arbitrary waveform generator in one housing. Currently this series includes 3 models with similar characteristics differing in maximum generation frequency — 80 MHz, 160 MHz and 250 MHz. One of the distinguishing features of these generators is a large 8″ touch screen which makes the work with these models convenient and easy. Current article represents a detailed review on this new series.

Discussion concerning GUM Guide unexpectedly continued in 2016 with the promised philosophical arguments of article published in 2007 as an announcement of the Guide criticizing the «inaccuracy » of measurements when type approval testing, verification and measuring instrument calibration. According to the plan the Guide was supposed to comply with ISO/IEC 17025, but the risk assessment for the «instrument cluster in the sense of statistical analysis» is beyond the scope of application. And now it is not clear whether this is in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025- 2017 where risk assessment issues came to the fore including the risk of «statistical assumptions»...

Last October there was a significant event happened in RIGOL’s life — the company celebrated its 20th anniversary! RIGOL was founded in 1998 as an independent laboratory and very soon it became the leading company with its own R&D capability in the test and measurement industry. The anniversary was celebrated in Suzhou where RIGOL’s head office and its own factory is located. On June 28 this year RIGOL organized another great event — distribution conference which was attended by RIGOL’s partners from Russia, South Africa, Thailand, Hong Kong, India, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Australia in order to discuss future prospects and the vision of mutual plans. Also they had a chance to see the presentation of new models expected in the nearest future. At the moment the company is standing on the threshold of global changes for the next five years. RIGOL’s new slogan is «Shape the vision — share the future! » that means the successful future is possible only if we share new ideas and support the mutual goals.

All the variety of tasks arising from the creation of laboratory, office or home automation systems in most cases come to a simple formulation — «If event A happens, then device B must be turned on (or turned off)». At the same time the «event» is usually determined by some measurements, logical (the door is open, the button is pressed...), or real (the temperature has risen, the illumination has fallen ...). AKTAKOM AAE-27x2 universal controllers (AAE- 2712 and AAE-2722) have logic, digital and analog-digital inputs as well as relay outputs and this allows solving almost any tasks similar to those above.

On June 4, 2019, Tektronix announced two new oscilloscope series — MDO 3 and MSO 4. Editorial staff of our magazine had a unique chance to see these new oscilloscopes in advance, on May 27, and to hear the presentation about all of the advantages of these new series. MDO 3 and MSO 4 series oscilloscopes have similar design comparing to the elder series (MSO 5 and 6), the largest sensor display and user friendly interface. More technical specifications, functions and details can be found in the present article.

AKTAKOM AM-3083 pulse coil tester has much wider functionality comparing to an ordinary insulation parameter meter. By the operation principle this universal tester can be attributed to the class of graphical analyzers, the device compares the reference form of the response to the pulse signal of the coil stored in non-volatile memory with the current form received from the device under test. Response conformity in percentage demonstrates the coil quality. In addition to the insulation quality assessment AM-3083 model also allows estimating the level of losses occurring in the coil.

Components like FPGA, CPU and DSP as a rule must meet special requirements towards the power sequence. Incorrect voltage supply sequence may cause the system components damage. Power voltage shouldn’t exceed the special limits specified by the manufacturer. In addition, in some cases it is required to comply with certain voltage growth rate when it is increased to the required value. Find more detail in the present article.

Recently calibration measuring task attracts the increasing attention of metrologists, not only because in practice calibration is made in accordance with the methods of measuring instruments verification or it is limited by the protocol of their joint measurements with the standard use. There are some other circumstances existing. Thus, as an example, calibration laboratories force to calibrate measuring instruments according to the international guidelines that in fact do not guarantee the main purchase achievement of the Federal Law «On Ensuring the Uniformity of Measurement» which is to protect the rights and legal interests of citizens, organizations and the state from unreliable measurement results… Find more details in the article written by Professor S.
