Break into high performance spectrum analysis with new compact and economical analyzer from Rohde & Schwarz

06/04/2010

The compact, economical R&S® FSC spectrum analyzer recently introduced by Rohde & Schwarz delivers all of the key characteristics of a professional spectrum analyzer. The R&S® FSC handles all basic functions such as RF spectrum measurement and power measurement. With a frequency range starting at 9 kHz and extending to a maximum of 6 GHz, the analyzer is ideal for applications that require a high-quality basic instrument: Simple development tasks, research and instruction, service and production. The compact design and low power consumption of the analyzer also make it destined for use in small test systems and in vehicles.

The R&S® FSC spectrum analyzer from Rohde & Schwarz proves that users don’t have to forgo quality when they choose an economical instrument. In its class, the spectrum analyzer achieves top RF performance metrics. With a maximum sensitivity of < –161 dBm (1 Hz), it can capture even weak signals. Its low level measurement uncertainty of < 1 dB ensures accurate results.

The R&S® FSC spectrum analyzer covers a frequency range from 9 kHz to either 3 GHz or 6 GHz. It is the perfect instrument for users who need basic functions such as noise marker, frequency counter, modulation depth measurement of AM modulated signals or power measurement of pulsed signals. In both frequency ranges, the R&S® FSC spectrum analyzer is available with an internal tracking generator that provides additional functionality such as cable loss measurements and simple determination of the transmission characteristics of DUTs such as filters or amplifiers.

The 3 HU, ½ 19’’ R&S® FSC spectrum analyzer is very suitable for installation in small and mobile test systems. Depending on the application, one R&S® FSC spectrum analyzer and one R&S® SMC signal generator or two R&S® FSC spectrum analyzers can be mounted next to each other in a 19” rack. This extremely energy-efficient spectrum analyzer consumes only 12 W. Users benefit not only from the compact design but also the high efficiency of this economical analyzer. It can be installed in vehicles to perform field measurements such as monitoring satellite communications links.

Using the R&S® FSC spectrum analyzer is easy and straightforward. All frequently used functions can be quickly accessed via hardkeys or a rotary knob. The user interface is available in 11 languages. Results can be managed, evaluated and documented with the R&S® FSC View software supplied with the unit. The R&S® FSC spectrum analyzer is compatible with all other instruments in the Rohde & Schwarz spectrum analyzer family. In the near future, it will also support the Rohde & Schwarz R&S® NRP power sensors. The user can integrate this function into the R&S® FSC spectrum analyzer with a firmware update, effectively eliminating the need for an additional power meter base unit for this application.

The R&S®FSC spectrum analyzer is now available from Rohde & Schwarz in four models (up to 3 GHz or 6 GHz, with or without a tracking generator).
