Yokogawa and Kazan National Research Technological University Establish an Advanced Laboratory

Yokogawa and Kazan National Research Technological University Establish an Advanced Laboratory

10/20/2011

Yokogawa Electric Corporation opened on September 1 an advanced laboratory in Kazan, Tatarstan. The establishment of this new laboratory was a joint effort by Yokogawa Electric CIS and Kazan National Research Technological University (KNRTU). The laboratory is located on the campus of KNRTU, which was founded in 1890.

Kazan has many oil and petrochemical plants in its vicinity, and projects for the construction of additional plants are planned. The new laboratory in Kazan is equipped with an extensive range of Yokogawa products including the CENTUM, ProSafe-RS, and STARDOM systems. The laboratory also features a number of custom-designed panels that house a variety of process control instrumentation equipment. In addition, computers running the OmegaLand operator training system are provided. University students as well as technicians and engineers already working in the industry will attend lectures at the laboratory and undergo specialized training in operating these systems.

The September 1 opening ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov; the President of Yokogawa Electric Corporation, Shuzo Kaihori; the Minister of Education and Science of Republic of Tatarstan, Albert Gilmutdinov; the Rector of KNRTU, German Dyakonov; and others. Following a symbolic start-up of the laboratory facilities by Messrs. Minnikhanov and Kaihori, Mr. Kaihori said: “In addition to providing leading-edge technology in such industries as natural resources and energy in Tatarstan, we believe it is our mission to foster the development of personnel who can play a role in developing your country’s manufacturing industries in such sectors as natural resources and energy. It is my hope that by promoting the study of advanced technologies, this laboratory will contribute to the development of Tatarstan.” As part of the ceremony, an honorary doctorate degree was conferred on Mr. Kaihori by KNRTU.

Yokogawa has had a foothold in the Russian market since 1993, when it opened a representative office in Moscow. In 1997, Yokogawa Electric Ltd. was founded to launch business on a full scale. The company changed its name to Yokogawa Electric CIS Ltd. in 2005 and has been aggressively expanding business not only in Russia but also in other CIS states. Yokogawa Electric Sakhalin and Yokogawa Electric Kazakhstan were founded in 2007 and 2010, respectively. Yokogawa has been working hard to strengthen its customer support system in Russia and other countries of the CIS, and this is the company’s 22nd facility in this region.

Yokogawa will continue to seek out new ways to make a unique contribution to this market by leveraging its technical strengths, and will remain focused on conducting its business in a socially responsible manner in the oil and natural gas rich countries of the CIS.
