Keysight, Qualcomm Achieve 3GPP 5G NR Standalone End-to-End IP Data Transfer

Keysight, Qualcomm Achieve 3GPP 5G NR Standalone End-to-End IP Data Transfer

02/05/2019

Keysight Technologies, Inc., a leading technology company that helps enterprises, service providers, and governments accelerate innovation to connect and secure the world, announced the successful demonstration of a 3GPP 5G New Radio (NR) standalone (SA) mode IP data transfer using Keysight's 5G network emulation solutions and a mobile smartphone form-factor test device consisting of a 5G modem and antenna modules from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated.

The high-speed IP data download transfer was achieved using a network configuration that combines the latest 3GPP Release 15.3.0 5G NR technologies. This achievement is an important milestone that enables mobile operators to deploy 5G NR SA mode, which does not rely on an anchor in the LTE network, to deliver enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) services required by many 5G use cases.

"We are delighted that Keysight's expertise and innovations in 5G solutions are helping us in the next major milestone of achieving IP data transfer in standalone mode," says Jon Detra, vice president, engineering, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. "With 5G commercialization starting in the first half of 2019, Qualcomm Technologies joining forces with Keysight, helps enable the entire mobile ecosystem to make 5G a commercial reality."

Keysight's track record of developing early 5G solutions in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies has yielded many 5G industry-first milestones, including the introduction of the first 5G NR-ready network emulation solutions.

"We are excited to continue our close collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies to achieve this technology landmark, enabling the entire wireless industry ecosystem to accelerate 5G standalone operation," stated Kailash Narayanan, vice president and general manager of Wireless Devices and Operators at Keysight Technologies. "Qualcomm's modem customers can easily validate device performance and speed development, as well as achieve consistent test results by using Keysight's 5G network emulation solutions."
