productronica 2011 clearly on a growth path

productronica 2011 clearly on a growth path

06/28/2011

A few months before productronica opens its door on 15 November 2011 for the 19th time, the upwards trend in electronics production is being manifestly reflected in the registration figures. At present, the leading trade fair for innovative electronics production has recorded a 15 per cent increase in the amount of exhibition space compared with productronica 2009. The number of registered exhibitors is also significantly higher (+ 15 per cent) than at the comparable period for the previous event. Over 1,200 companies are expected to take part in productronica 2011. The trade fair’s record of success to date is also markedly due to the new developments, including the new PCB Community Area for the semiconductor industry in Hall B1, which is fully booked up.

The positive developments during the preparations for the trade fair also indicate that the electronics industry has reattained the level before the economic crisis. The total number of registrations is now already well above that for the previous event in 2009. More than 1,200 companies will present their innovations and products in seven full exhibition halls. The proportion of foreign exhibitors has also risen again. Overall, a good 34 per cent of the exhibitors who have registered so far come from outside Germany.

According to Christian Rocke, productronica Project Manager, the great demand by companies for productronica 2011 reflects the positive market development of the electronics industry: “The pleasing registration figures for productronica 2011 with much higher exhibitor numbers and the returning interest of international suppliers exemplify the growth expectations of the market.” This is also confirmed by the forecast in the current business climate survey of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) in which industry representatives anticipated a 20 per cent increase in turnover in 2011.

Apart from a few vacant places, most of the exhibition space in the exhibition halls for productronica 2011 is almost booked up. An enormous amount of interest is being shown in the new PCB Community Area in the fully occupied Hall B1 and the adjacent Hall B2, which will act as an overflow due to the high demand. This segment will be represented by a large number of industry leaders such as Atotech GmbH, Gebr. Schmid GmbH & Co., Kuttler Automation Systems, MacDermid, Posalux GmbH and Schmoll Maschinen GmbH. The concept to strengthen the European market for PCB and circuit carrier production in the trade fair programme has therefore been a total success. The higher demand is also reflected in other halls at productronica: in particular, the placement technology segments in Halls A2 and A3 and the soldering technology segment in Hall A4 will profit in 2011 from the positive market development. Great interest is also being expressed in battery and energy storage device production in Hall B2, a new segment in the nomenclature in 2011. With the related special show entitled “Battery production and power electronics”, which is being jointly organised with the VDMA Productronic Association, productronica will fully match the trend towards electromobility. The key to electromobility lies in lower costs in production engineering, the main topic of productronica.
