Spectracom announced Pendulum STA-61 - new portable sync tester/analyzer for next generation networks (NGN)

Spectracom announced Pendulum STA-61 - new portable sync tester/analyzer for next generation networks (NGN)

11/09/2010

Spectracom, a company of the Orolia Group (NYSE Alternext Paris – FR0010501015 – ALORO) and a global provider of time and frequency test and measurement solutions, announced its new  Sync Tester/Analyzer developed for Next Generation Networks (NGN)incorporating both traditional SDH/SONET core networks and IP-based backhaul networks. Where traditional synchronization testers on the market are dedicated to do tests in one type of network or the other, the new Pendulum STA-61 can do it all. “We’ve seen a big need in the market for a portable field sync tester/analyzer able to verify the quality of synchronization clocks both in traditional SDH/SONET networks, as well as in emerging synchronized IP-based backhaul networks for mobile communication” says Staffan Johansson, Strategic Product Manager at Spectracom.

Lisa Withers, President and CEO of Spectracom adds: “We are proud to introduce the next generation sync tester/analyzer to the growing market for telecom backhaul networks. This innovative product, yet very user-friendly and with lowest cost of ownership, once again proves Spectracom’s expertise in test & measurement instruments.”

The new STA-61 will be available in March 2011.

Product features

Lightweight, with a handle and a size that fits as carry-on luggage on aircrafts, the Pendulum STA-61 is designed to be easily carried anywhere. Unlike existing sync testers, the STA-61 self-calibrates between measurements to eliminate calibration downtime using an optional, integrated GPS-receiver enabling continuous calibration/adjustment of the integrated reference atomic clock. An optional battery backup ensures that the calibration stability is maintained during transports.

It is easy to expand the STA-61 with more capability in the future, thanks to a modular design leveraging a generic measurement platform. If you want to measure synchronization quality (wander) on several access points in a station, the STA-61 can measure on up to 6 different test points simultaneously. Within a few minutes anyone could learn to operate this sync tester/analyzer equipped with intuitive menus and a large color LCD touch screen, showing TIE, TDEV or MTIE results in real-time during measurement.

All these functions packed together in one instrument makes the STA-61 a most cost-effective solution for telecom network operators and installers.

You can see the new STA-61 Sync Tester/Analyzer demonstration and some other products at Spectracom booth on following exhibitions:

  • ITSF at Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin, Ireland from 2-4th November.
  • Electronica at New Munich Trade Fair, Munich, Germany from 9-12th November, Hall A1, Stand 215.
  • PTTIat Hyatt Regency Reston, Reston, Virginia, USA from 15-18th November.
