It’s no longer enough to have smart gadgets. Any gadget that wants to grab consumer attention has to be both smart and connected. The connected piece means that wireless must be part of the design as well. While the use of wireless modules eliminates many technical issues, there are still many decisions to be made. The most critical — and daunting — task is to ensure that the end product meets complex FCC and international regulatory requirements.

Tektronix company which specializes in measuring equipment and, just like Fluke, is a part of Danaher Corporation has conducted three day energy audit in the headquarter in Beaverton (Oregon, USA). This audit target was to find some opportunities for expenses reduction due to resource saving. During this energy audit they used Fluke 289 digital multimeter, Fluke 971 temperature and humidity meter and Fluke 1735 power logger. During the work the experts have found some opportunities to save almost half a million dollars every year. Find more details in this article.

Previously oscilloscopes were hardly used to fight with EMI. They lacked sensitivity necessary for EMI detection, their functions of spectral analysis with the help of FFT hadn’t been developed enough and were difficult in use. The situation has changed with new digital oscilloscope R&S RTO from Rohde & Schwarz. Sensitivity of 1 mV/div and 4 GHz bandwidth including very low inherent noise level make this oscilloscope perfect for signal analysis in induction zone for the detection and analysis of emitted electromagnetic interference. Find more about Rohde & Schwarz oscilloscope in the present article.

In oscilloscopes or oscilloscope probes, bandwidth is a measure of the width of a range of frequencies measured in Hertz. Utilizing the built-in mathematical capabilities available in modern digitizing oscilloscopes, it is possible to derive the frequency response or the bandwidth characteristics of a probe based on the measured step response of a fast step signal. Among those several test methods, the time domain approach is the easiest to duplicate without needing expensive test instruments.

Emerging NVM materials and device types require electrical characterization that traditionally has not been available or required custom in-house test systems, which had limited capabilities. New instrumentation is now available that provides pulse sourcing with simultaneous measurement that permits characterization of the underlying switching behavior that is key to understanding NVM performance.

Precise power measurements are critical to ensuring the performance and compliance of modern communication and radar systems. While there are certainly a large number of options available for making these measurements, each comes with its own set of trade-offs. For field measurements, use of a tuned receiver like the FieldFox spectrum analyzer with built-in CPM offers users better sensitivity, a higher dynamic range, short measurement times, and no warm-up time, with only slightly reduced measurement accuracy as compared to a power sensor.

Probes are vital to oscilloscope measurements. To understand how vital, disconnect the probes from an oscilloscope and try to make a measurement. It can’t be done. There has to be some kind of electrical connection, a probe of some sort between the signal to be measured and the oscilloscope’s input channel. In addition to being vital to oscilloscope measurements, probes are also critical to measurement quality. In this article you’ll learn what contributes to the strengths and weaknesses of probes and how to select the right probe for your application.

Tests such as device efficiency and battery drain analysis measure voltage and current to compute power and other electrical parameters. The accuracy of these tests is directly dependent on the accuracy of the constituent measurements, often targeting a total error of 0.1% or better. At a glance, current measurement might seem like a straightforward application of Ohms law, but measuring large or highly dynamic currents can be deceptively challenging due to range and accuracy limitations in real-world equipment.
