Electronics, ICT and Lighting Fairs Open in Hong Kong

The HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition), HKTDC International ICT Expo and HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) opened on 13 April 2010 with an emphasis on environmental solutions and cutting-edge products, including 3D technology.

More than 3,200 exhibitors are gathered at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre for the concurrent fairs. Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the shows continue through 16 April.

The Electronics Fair and ICT Expo are both in their seventh year. The Lighting Fair, which made its debut last year, returns with an emphasis on LED lighting solutions.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), organiser of the fairs, arranged more than 200 buying missions to the fairs.

Electronics Fair

More than 2,300 exhibitors are taking part in the Electronics Fair, which this year introduces a new zone called Testing & Certification. Zone has been set up in response to growing demand, while the Solar Photovoltaic Technology Zone reflects increased interest in green technology. Returning to the fair are popular product zones focused on Audio & Visual, Digital Imaging, Electronic Gaming, Electronic Manufacturing Service, In-Vehicle Electronics, Navigation Systems and Solar Photovoltaic Electronics.

The Hall of Fame features 430 major brands, including newcomers Changhong, Daewoo, Hyundai, Philips and Pierre Cardin. Seminars at the Electronics Fair spotlight experts on topics ranging from the latest three-dimensional display technology to new safety and regulatory requirements for electronics products.


Pic.2. The fairs feature environmental and energy-saving products, including this solar bag designed by Mascotte Industrial Associates (Hong Kong) Ltd. A foldable solar panel inside the bag enables users to charge their mobile phones and MP3 players anytime, anywhere.

ICT Expo

Over 570 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions are taking part in the concurrent ICT Expo. The show is displaying the newest products and solutions in information and communications technology, including telecommunications, multimedia, the Internet, digital entertainment, computer and peripherals. The event features three new zones – Telecom, Networking & Wireless Technologies, Cloud Computing & Open Source, and Smartphone Technology.

Returning this year are thematic zones, including Computer & Peripherals, Enterprise Solutions, IT Outsourcing, Digitainment & Multimedia, E-Logistics & Retail Technologies and Homegrown Innovations. Hong Kong honorees from the 2009 China Outstanding Software Products Award are also in the spotlight at a new pavilion acknowledging outstanding developments in electronics software.

Other highlights include the INET Asia Regional Conference, an online event initiated by the Internet Society Hong Kong, a seminar on the Japanese technology known as QR Code and conferences addressing hot topics such as smartphones and cloud computing.


Pic.3. ICT Expo highlights include a Chinese University of Hong Kong brain-computer interface for measuring users’ brain waves to write Chinese characters on computer.

Lighting Fair

Rounding out the trio of events is the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair. More than 380 exhibitors from nine countries and regions are showcasing their products at the fair, with Germany, Russia, Singapore and Thailand represented for the first time. More than half the booths feature LED products, reflecting increasing demand for the efficient, energy-saving lighting products.

The Lighting Fair also offers a series of seminars and conferences, including a symposium on LED lighting.
