As there are two similar words for term «verification» in Russian they are often confused in meaning. One of them «poverka» stands for determination of measurement error value of measuring instruments to verify their compliance with the metrological standards. The other one simply means «checking» — it is just sort of a control operation which aims to verify the availability, working condition, serviceability, etc. The article tells about the history of the term «poverka» and related concepts in Russia.

Rapid development of digital technologies has given an impulse to design and production of high-speed electronic components. The use of advanced DAC, increasing speed and resolution, and also reduction of the cost made digital generators increasingly popular against analog generators. After analyzing the changing trends in the T&M market, AKTAKOM introduced four new series of digital DDS generator in the fall of 2010. Their capabilities and characteristics are described in this article.

Are the basic units independent? At first sight, they are and this question don’t even require discussion. But the authors of regulatory documents and reference books do not mention the independence of the basic units from each other or from other derived units. The author of this article examines in details the definition of the basic SI units and shows that almost all units are defined in terms of other quantities.

Increasing production, complexity and functionality of different types of mobile wireless devices demands the expanding of traditional RF measuring instruments bandwidth. A clear understanding of the principles of traditional radio measuring instruments, as well as many limitations associated with their use, allows the majority of engineers to turn to an open software-defined modular architecture for the creation of the RF automated test systems. National Instruments has been developing T&M equipment in the PXI format for RF industry and offering complete measuring systems based on them for more than eight years.
