Rohde & Schwarz partners with UNH-IOL to enhance high-speed Ethernet and InfiniBand compliance testing
07/23/2021 | 15Test and measurement specialist Rohde & Schwarz and the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) extend their ongoing collaboration to expand Ethernet and InfiniBand compliance testing. Both have pooled their expertise to provide methods of implementation (MOI) for precise, fast and error-free compliance testing of high-speed cables and backplanes in line with IEEE 802.3 (up to IEEE 802.3ck) and InfiniBand standards (up to rate designator HDR), using vector network analysis test equipment from Rohde & Schwarz.

The R&S NGA100 is available in four models, providing a choice of single and dual outputs with up to 35 V/6 A per output, or 100 V/2 A per output. The 1-O type base stations operate at FR1 frequency range and they have antenna arrays with integrated transceivers, without any access to internal RF ports. This requires all conformance and production testing to be performed over-the-air (OTA). However, OTA testing can be technically challenging.

MultiGBASE-T1 Ethernet standard meets these needs by including 2.5G, 5G and 10G speeds. Compared to 1000BASE-T1, MultiGBASE-T1 uses PAM4 (4 levels) modulation with symbol rates of 1.4, 2.8 and 5.6 GHz. The Open Alliance TC15 PMA compliance test specification addressing this standard is still in a draft state.
