In his letter to customers Joseph P Keithley (President and Chief Executive Officer, Keithley Instruments, Inc.) informed about sales agreement whereby Tektronix will purchase Keithley. The acquisition was announced on September 29, 2010, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2010.

Researchers at Ohio State University have demonstrated the first plastic computer memory device that utilizes the spin of electrons to read and write data. An alternative to traditional microelectronics, so-called “spintronics” could store more data in less space, process data faster, and consume less power.

An international team from the Attosecond Physics Laboratory at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics in Garching has discovered a time delay when using light pulses to eject electrons from atoms. This led to the measurement of the shortest time observed in nature to date, reported in Science magazine, 25 June 2010, DOI: 10.1126/science.1189401.
