ITU Adopts Korea’s Phone Charger as Global Standard

ITU Adopts Korea’s Phone Charger as Global Standard

03/25/2010

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) approved a mobile phone charger made by South Korean companies as one of the global standards.

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) said the ITU has approved South Korea’s integrated I/O connection for universal power adapter, which works with any input voltage, as an international standard for a handset charger.

The ITU has also adopted Micro-USB, proposed by GSMA, an association of mobile operators, and Mini-USB, proposed by China, as global standard.

“The approval will let us keep the current industry standard in South Korea, which has been recently implemented,” said an official from KCC. “It will also pave the way toward exporting products based on the standard.”
